The Department of Public Safety is releasing the name of the second victim in a fiery crash in Newton County that happened Saturday on Highway 62 near the Jasper-Newton County line.

DPS Sgt. Chuck Havard tells 12News the driver of the maroon Dodge pickup truck is identified as Larry Richard Smith, 47, of Groves.

According to DPS, Smith was traveling southbound on Highway 62 and was attempting to pass another vehicle when he crashed head-on into a Ford pickup.  The vehicles caught fire as a result of the collision.

DPS Sgt. Chuck Havard said the victim from the Ford is identified as Elisha Michelle Jordan, 45, of Kirbyville. The name of the driver in the Dodge is not being released at this time.

According to an eyewitness and former wrecker driver, Donald Gonzales of Mauriceville, the driver in the Ford was being trailed by her husband and daughter after the family purchased a camper in Bridge City. Gonzales says he obtained this information from the woman's husband when he stopped to assist following the wreck.
