Nederland standoff ends with two arrests, no injuries

A nearly three-and-a-half hour standoff ended with two men in custody and no one injured.

Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush told 12News that around 5:15 p.m. Friday, Jefferson County deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant on Gillum Arnold, 31, of Nederland who was inside a home located at 1128 Luling Avenue.  When officers arrived, Arnold fled to the attic with a loaded gun.  At that point additional police and SWAT were called.

Another man was also inside the home.  He immediately surrendered to authorities before the standoff began.  While inside, Arnold fired two shots inside the home during the standoff but no one was hit.  At around 7:35 p.m. he was forced to surrender to authorities after he fell to the ground receiving some type of injury.  Officers were then able to safely enter the home and apprehend Arnold.

Arnold was taken to the hospital for treatment before being taken to jail.

The arrest warrant issued for Arnold was for aggravated assault in the city of Port Arthur.  An officer said Arnold has an extensive criminal history.
