By Brian Vitagliano

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The family of an autistic New York City teen who's been missing since October has been notified by police that remains were found Thursday in Queens, the family's lawyer said.

It hasn't yet been determined whether the remains are those of Avonte Oquendo. But the lawyer said that, along with the remains, police found shoes and jeans that match Avonte's size.

The remains were found Thursday evening next to the East River in Queens, the lawyer said.
