The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating an oil sheen discovered in the water at the Pleasure Island Yacht club.
The Coast Guard issued the following news release:
PORT ARTHUR, Texas- The Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit and Texas General Land Office (TGLO) are responding to a report of an oil sheen at the Pleasure Island Yacht Club that was reported on Wednesday, January 8th. The Coast Guard and TGLO is currently conducting a joint investigation into the cause of the incident and is tracking down all possible sources.
The Coast Guard and TGLO are working to systematically direct the oil spill response and clean-up efforts. Booming strategies have been established to protect the marina and private property; boom will stay in place until the source has been secured and cleanup is completed. An estimated 30 gallons of crude oil condensate has been recovered and a likely source has been identified, pending further investigation.
