Police say a bride-to-be was killed by an intoxicated driver

A Beaumont Police Department spokesperson says Alexis Neal, 32, was driving on North 11th Street at around 9:45 p.m. Thursday when her car was broadsided by a pickup coming from Long Street.

Officers say the collision killed Neal instantly.

The Beaumont man driving the pickup, Justin Young, 34, has been arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Neal was from Buna, but had moved to Beaumont to go to school and pursue her nursing career.

She had just started a job at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital this past Monday, but her most recent passion was planning her wedding.

She had Thursday off to work on wedding plans.

She also did work for The Oaks at Beaumont, a nursing home.  The administrator there, Steve Corley said, "Ms. Neal was truly one of those kind of employees that you prayed for to send to work in a place like this."

Corley says nursing was truly Neal's calling.  She was assigned to a unit where she mainly dealt with Alzheimer's patients.

Corley says she had the right temperament for the job.

He said, "Her personality and her compassion that she demonstrated not only to the residents, but to her co-workers, she was a popular member of that staff that she worked."

Funeral arrangements are pending because she did not have insurance.  Her family is in the process of setting up a benefit account.
