Two Kountze teenagers were killed in a two-vehicle accident just before 5 p.m. Friday on Highway 69.

A DPS Trooper said Savion Smith, 16, and Keiron Edwards, 18, were in a southbound car on Highway 69 near Hooks Cemetery Road. Both teens were backseat passengers.

The driver of the car, a Kia, was attempting to make a left turn as another car was stopped in the oncoming lane attempting to make a left turn. The Kia proceeded to turn left when a third vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet SUV, passed the vehicle that was stopped. The SUV collided with the Kia.

The driver of the Kia, Jacob Eppes, 17, of Kountze, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The front passenger, Thomas Buller, 17, of Kountze, was also treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV John Delagarza ,62, of Beaumont, was treated for minor injuries.

The north and southbound lanes of Highway 69 were shut down for over an hour while crews worked the accident.
