A spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety says alcohol is suspected as a factor in an accident that injured four people Sunday morning.
The accident happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday on Williford Road, near Highway 69.
According to DPS the driver of a 2006 Chevrolet truck was traveling at an unsafe speed and lost control when Wiliford Road came to a dead-end. The vehicle traveled off the road, struck a culvert and went airborne. As the vehicle was in the air, it struck a tree and landed upside-down. The driver Jerred White, 20, of Sour Lake was transported to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont in stable condition. The front passenger Haley McDuffie, 18, was trapped inside the vehicle for about an hour before being removed with the jaws-of-life. She was transported to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth with several broken bones. She is currently listed in stable condition. The rear passenger William Tucker,17, was transported to Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital with broken bones. The other rear passenger Chae Buller,17, was transported to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth with broken bones.
This is an active crash investigation. Troopers suspect that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
