Electronic glitch leads to deactivated cards for DuPont Goodrich Federal Credit Union customers

Posted: Updated:
BEAUMONT -

Imagine having just a few hours left to shop for Christmas, and your debit card is declined at the store, and won't work at the ATM, yet you know you have money in  your account.

That actually happened to thousands of Southeast Texans who have accounts at DuPont Goodrich Federal Credit Union.

DuPont Goodrich was very transparent with us and their members and took immediate action to find a solution.

This after the credit union learned that an electronic issue with the debit card vendor was deactivating cards.

Not the best timing on the day before Christmas, and with DuPont Goodrich scheduled to be closed.

Christmas Eve was a holiday for the employees, but as soon as management learned about the problem they called in employees from nine of the 10 branches.

The credit union has branches throughout Jefferson, Hardin, Jasper and Orange counties, the electronic glitch affected customers from all those locations.

DuPont Credit Federal Credit Union's marketing communications specialist Rebecca Prince said, "We sent every communications we could, on email and our mobile app, our Facebook and Twitter to let people know we are open.  We're here to help and if you can come by, you can reactivate your debit card and get you a new one immediately."

Prince said the credit union wanted all its members to know that their accounts are safe and the situation is not a result of a security breach, and DuPont Goodrich is in the process of fixing the issue.

All locations will be closed Christmas day, but will re-open Thursday.
