Stores accommodate last minute shoppers

Posted: Updated:

On the last shopping day before Christmas, local stores stayed open longer and offered deals for procrastinating shoppers.

Christmas Eve used to be one of the few days of the year that closed early, now it's an opportunity to buy more stuff.

Some shoppers have good reasons for waiting so late to buy gifts.

Aaron Newman flew to Beaumont from Minnesota on Tuesday and said this was his only opportunity to buy gifts, without having too much luggage.

"I always shop last minute, it just makes it easier and there's not a whole lot of thought to it," Newman said.

Jill Klinkhammer also had a special reason to shop on Christmas Eve.

"We had a brand new nephew born two weeks ago… so we had to do some last minute shopping for him for sure," Klinkhammer said.

Wal-Mart stayed open until eight on Tuesday, Toys-R-Us until nine and Target stayed open until 10 p.m.

After the massive Target security breach that comprised 40 million credit and debit card numbers, CEO Gregg Steinhafel stated in a letter on Target.com that customers can shop with confidence. He also said that customer's who did experience fraud will not be held financially responsible.
