Store clerk shot in north-Beaumont robbery


A store clerk was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen following an armed robbery in North Beaumont Friday morning.

Shortly after 11 a.m. a man armed with what witnesses said was some type of rifle walked into the Sunshine Grocery store in the 3300 block of Concord Road at Pope Avenue.

The man robbed the clerk.  During the robbery he shot the clerk in the abdomen.

Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley told 12News the clerk was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. As of 11:50 a.m. his condition is unknown.

The robber remains at large.  Witnesses describe him as a black male with a thin build, around 6'1," tall wearing a camo sweatshirt with a hoodie.  He was last seen running north toward a nearby carwash. 

Officer Riley said it is possible he got into a blue van that was seen nearby.
