Dickson, Maikranz Earn All-America Honors LU Duo named to the Sports Network FCS All-America Squad
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – In a season of so many firsts, it is only fitting that the Lamar football team continues that trend with the naming of seniors Jesse Dickson and Chris Maikranz to the 2013 Sports Network FCS All-America squad. Both Dickson and Maikranz received third-team honors announced TSN Executive Director Craig Haley Wednesday morning.
"I'm very proud of both of those young men," said head coach Ray Woodard. "It's first time since bringing back the program that we have produced an All-American. Both have had great careers for us and I can think of no better way to end it.
"Jesse set the stage for his senior season last year, but he really exceeded our expectations. It was enjoyable to watch him from a coach's perspective. For Chris, I know the deep snappers don't get a lot of recognition but we've been very fortunate to have him on our team. I've been around football along time and he is the most consistent snapper I've ever had. He never had a bad snap in four years," added Woodard.
Dickson closed out his career as one of the league most intimidating defensive lineman. A 2013 first-team All-Southland Conference selection, Dickson was named league defensive player of the year according to College Sports Madness. Dickson led the team and finished ninth in the conference with 81 total tackles. He was the only lineman in the Southland to rank among the league's top 30 in that category. He also finished the season sixth in the league in sacks and tops in the conference in tackles for loss.
Maikranz wraps up his collegiate career receiving high praise from a position that garners little recognition. Serving as the team's deep snapper since Lamar resurrected the program, Maikranz never recorded a bad snap in four seasons. The Sugar Land, Texas native, began to receive national attention earlier this season when he was invited to play in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl – an invitation awarded to players who scouts feel have a shot at playing at the next level.
