Drunk driver collides with Amtrak train

NBC News Channel

An Amtrak train carrying more than 40 passengers was involved in an accident with a car Thursday morning in Waverly, Virginia.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police said the crash occurred on Route 40 around 6 a.m. when a Crown Victoria driven by Untron Drew tried to go around a crossing bar when the functional warning lights were on.

The train was traveling 79 mph when it struck Drew's car. Drew was airlifted to Richmond with non-life threatening injuries and Anaya said alcohol was a factor in the crash.
