Pinehurst Police are asking citizens to be on the lookout for a pack of dogs after a pet llama was attacked and later died from its injuries.
Police say it happened just before noon Tuesday. Employees of Dixie Glass on MacArthur Drive heard the attack and ran to see three dogs attacking the llama.
The llama, named Hope, belonged to Shari Spradling. She sometimes left Hope fenced behind her parents property so the animal can graze on the grass.
"It is hard. She's a family member, sweet as can be. If they did that to a person it'd be much worse," Spradling told 12News Wednesday.
Spradling's parents were known in the community for owning llama's and taking them for rides around town in their cars.
Pinehurst Police Chief Fred Hanauer says the only good description on the dogs is that one had a 'wolf like appearance' but was wearing a yellow bandana around it's neck. The bandana gives Chief Hanauer reason to believe the dogs belong to someone.
