UPDATE: Beaumont police Tuesday arrested a man accused of using his first day out of jail to stab his own brother. Perry Banks Jr, 21, of Beaumont, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after officers say he was caught shoplifting at a Beaumont store.

Beaumont police spokesperson Officer Carol Riley told 12News the stabbing happened around 8:15 a.m. Monday at a house located at 3745 Usan Street in Beaumont's south end. The incident sparked the lockdown of two nearby Beaumont Independent School District campuses.

The victim, Bank's brother, was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth. Officer Riley did not know the extent of his injuries.

A woman who identified herself to 12News as the girlfriend of the victim said she was sleeping in the house when Banks came in, took a knife off of the kitchen table and stabbed the victim twice. She said a younger brother and the victim's father were also in the house at the time of the stabbing.

An officer on the scene told 12News that a witness told investigators that Banks, who was released from jail Sunday on a theft charge, was seen with a gun in his possession.
