New Lake Charles casino resort expected to create jobs for Southeast Texans

Posted: Updated:

A spruce tree was placed on top of the Golden Nugget Casino Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana Friday.  The tree is part of a "topping out" ceremony marking the progress that's been made on the enormous project.

The new casino is being built right next to L'Auberge Casino Resort. The $600 million project is expected to be completed in Fall 2014.

Houston-based Landry's, Inc., one of the nation's largest dining, hospitality and entertainment corporations, owns the Golden Nugget franchise.

"What you're going to have here is a great destination, having these two great properties sitting right next to each other," said Landry's CEO Tilman Fertitta.

Fertitta, whose net worth is an estimated $2.4 billion, was born and raised in Galveston, and is excited to bring his newest casino close to home.

"I have so many relatives in Beaumont that are excited about it," he told 12News.

The resort in Lake Charles will be the 5th Golden Nugget Casino Resort, with locations in Laughlin, Nevada... Las Vegas... Atlantic City, New Jersey... and Biloxi, Mississippi.

Still months from completion, the Lake Charles resort will feature 750 luxury hotel rooms and suites, restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, and a casino with over 60 table games and 1,600 slot machines.

"It's really going to be one of the most beautiful casinos built, I think it's going to shock people how nice this property is going to be," said Fertitta.

Fertitta said it will also create about 2,000 new jobs.

"You're going to have hundreds of management jobs to hundreds of hourly jobs," he said. "A lot of employees will come out of the Golden Triangle from Beaumont to Port Arthur."
We were told that job opportunities will be posted on the Golden Nugget web page in the months leading up to the opening.
