Thousands visit Kansas City Southern Holiday Express in Beaumont

Posted: Updated:

An estimated 3,000 people waited in line in the cold for their chance to see Santa inside the Kansas City Southern Holiday Express in Beaumont Thursday.

The Christmas-themed train was at the tracks near Lamar University's Montagne Center from 4 p.m.-8 p.m.  Many families say they waited in line for 2 hours for the free event.

The Express is visiting 20 cities in 6 different states during its 13th annual holiday run.  Port Arthur was the train's first stop on November 29, and Beaumont was its 7th stop.

Once inside, kids got a chance to take a picture with Santa Claus. They then got to walk through different cars featuring decorations, figurines, and two large-scale miniature villages complete with automated trains.

"You can walk through... and you can just look into one of the child's faces, and you can see the enthusiasm in their eyes, their excitement when they walk through the train, and that's what its all about," said Head Elf Grant Elliott.

The train was only in Beaumont for one night. Its next stop is Friday, December 6 at 4 p.m. at the Railroad Museum in DeQuincy, Louisiana.
