Keystone XL pipeline to be delivering oil by January

Transcanada expects to be delivering oil to Houston by January 3, according to a regulatory filing.

Until now, roughly 400,000 barrels have been transported by pipeline from Cushing, Oklahoma to Houston each day.

But this Gulf Coast pipeline is a game-changer.

It can handle 700,000 barrels of crude a day.

And by midway through next year, the pipeline to Houston will also handle more crude.  It will more than double its current output to around 850,000 barrels a day.

The price of West Texas Intermediate jumped roughly 2.4% on the news.

Construction on the Keystone XL pipeline from Oklahoma to Canada can begin no sooner than two years after government approval. That approval is now in its sixth year of government review.
