A group of Southeast Texans Monday participated in a march for World Aids Day. The event was hosted by the Port Arthur Health Department.
Organizers said participation in the march, and events like it, gives participants an opportunity to unite in the fight against HIV.
"Major advances such as new drug therapies, early diagnosis, and preventative education have prolonged and greatly improved the quality of life of those living with HIV/AIDS. However, the epidemic is far from over. We must encourage testing so we KNOW our HIV status and also to commit to lifestyles of health and wellness. We can't wait on someone else; we must take care of ourselves," says a statement from the Port Arthur Health Department.
The STD & HIV/AIDS march was held Monday at 11:30 a.m. It started at 1300 Joe Louis Ave and ended at the pavilion on Thomas Blvd.
World Aids Day is December 1. The march was held one day later because of the holiday weekend.
