Six minutes were left in the third quarter of Saturday's playoff game between the LC-M Bears and the Dayton Broncos. That's when a fight between two players escalated into a brawl on field that took about ten minutes to stop.
The referees ejected the two players, one from each team, who started the incident, and the game went on.
Dayton won the game 49-16 without further incident. But referees reported the fight to the University Interscholastic League. UIL media coordinator Kate Hector says there's not much more the state agency can do, further discipline would have to come from the school districts themselves.
A Dayton ISD spokeswoman told 12News the team did get a tough talking to about sportsmanship and the Dayton player who was ejected has to write a report about sportsmanship and send it to the UIL.
No word yet on how LC-M is handling the incident. District spokeswoman Sherry Combs contacted the head football coach to answer our questions, but as of news time we had not heard from her.
