Groves girl donates birthday presents to foster children

Posted: Updated:

It looks like a typical 9-year-old girl's birthday party with presents, friends and everyone playing dress up.

But, it's what's wrapped in the presents that go beyond what meets the eye. For her birthday, Kennedy Jordan, of Groves, decided to not accept her presents but instead donate her presents to foster children.

Kennedy donated her presents to an organization called "Arrow Child and Family Ministries."

"I figured they don't have many toys. So, this year instead of giving presents for my birthday, I got presents for the little kids and boys at the orphanage at Arrow," Kennedy said.

Kennedy visited an orphanage a few years back. It was there where she noticed not all kids are as fortunate as her.

"Sad. So, I got them some toys for my birthday," she said.

"Something as small as a doll or a toy can be that piece of comfort for that first night or first week," said Jesse Lofton with Arrow Child and Family Ministries, "To have an 8-year-old now 9-year-old just say 'I want to give to others. I want to touch them in such a sacrificial way. It's moving."

Kennedy says she couldn't have pulled this birthday blessing off without all of her friends and family.

Arrow Child and Family Ministries provides Christian assistance for Southeast Texas children who suffer from abuse and neglect.
