Beaumont I.S.D. is making moves in response to an FBI raid

Posted: Updated:

Beaumont ISD has hired a company to evaluate its finance department.

This comes on the heels of an FBI raid that happened almost two weeks ago. Federal investigators are looking into allegations of a bogus account and diverted funds.

The company's name was not mentioned but two representatives spoke to the B.I.S.D. Board of Trustees on it's behalf at a meeting Monday.

The representatives have been visiting the district for about a week now.

They are evaluating things like internal controls and how things are processed in the business finance department of the B.I.S.D.

"Their recommendations will go to Dr. Chargois and we will progress to get that department stable again so we can keep up day to day business," Board of Trustees President Gwen Ambres said Monday night.

The company told trustees it will have someone  on site two days every week though it didn't not say for how long.

The person will be doing detail on accounting functions that would be handled by the district's comptroller.

The districts Comptroller Sharika Allison and Director of Finance Devin McCraney are still on administrative leave.

Their homes were raided by the FBI the same day as the administration building.

The company will also redirect some responsibilities because some positions remain unfilled in the finance department.

The superintendent also mentioned considering hiring a Chief Financial Officer immediately or creating other positions.
