Man gets six-month sentence for child sex assault

Posted: Updated:

A Beaumont man is facing the consequences of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in 2008, but some might say he's getting off easy.

Paul Guillory III, 29, was sentenced to six months in jail, 10 years probation, a $1,000 fine.  He will also have to register as a sex offender.

The lawyer for the prosecution, Chris Cadena, said on August 12, 2008 the victim's 17-year-old sister invited some people to her house.   He said the group was drinking and the victim, who was 15-years-old at the time, felt sick so she went to her bedroom to lie down.

Cadena said after the girl lost consciousness Guillory entered the victim's room and began to have sexual intercourse with her.

The prosecution says the girl's 17-year-old sister walked in on the act and stopped it.

12News spoke to the victim's mother who says her daughters are traumatized and her family decided that taking the case to trial would only do more damage to the girls.

The victim's family is satisfied with his punishment.

"Most important thing is that he's being held accountable," said the victim's mother.

"He will have to register as a sex offender, that means the world to my daughter that's all she wanted, for him to be held accountable and not be in the position to do this again," she said.

Judge John Stevens gave Guillory two weeks before he has to report to jail.  Judge Stevens allowed the two weeks because Guillory has sole custody of his 1-year-old son.  Guillory is to use the 14 days to make living arrangements for the child, then he must report to jail.

If Guillory violates any of the conditions of his probation, including using drugs or alcohol, breaking curfew or missing a check-in, the prosecution says Guillory will be looking at a substantial amount of prison time.
