Missing Jasper man accused of defrauding Tennessee bank

Posted: Updated:

New details emerged Wednesday about a Jasper man who has been missing since Thursday of last week.

Alfred Wright was last seen November 7th at a convenience store in Hemphill.

His mother tells 12News, Wright has physical therapy clients there. Wednesday, 12News obtained a federal indictment that charges Wright with embezzlement.

Wright is accused with defrauding a Tennessee bank out of more than $1,000 sometime in January, 2011.

The indictment says Wright was an employee at the bank. A trial date is scheduled for December 9 in a federal courtroom in Memphis.

The Sabine County Sheriff's Office suspended its organized ground search for Wright Monday night but authorities say they are still searching by air.

A deputy took to Facebook defending the sheriff's office after some people criticized it. The deputy mentioned a possible reason for Wright's disappearance being linked to the federal indictment.

He went on to explain the effort put in by deputies and volunteers saying "There is only so much you can do,"

Wright's mother has since decided to turn away media inquiries after learning of the indictment. A relative tells 12News she is now solely focused on finding her son.

Authorities say any ties between Wright's disappearance and the indictment would be purely speculation at this time.
