Missing Jasper man is a football scholar turned physical therapist

Posted: Updated:

The mother of a missing Jasper man, Alfred Wright, 28, says it's hard but she is holding on to hope that her son will be found safe.

Wright, who was last seen Nov 7 at a package store in Hemphill, is a 2003 graduate of Jasper High School. Rosalind Wright says her son earned a $100,000 scholarship to play football at Mary Hardin-Baylor. After two years, Wright transferred to the University of Tennessee where he earned a physical therapy degree. Wright graduated Magna Cum Laude. His mother describes him as family man with three sons ages 8, 4, and 2. According to Rosalind Wright, his wife Lauren was the last person he talked to the day he went missing. He told her he was having trouble with his 2008 Dodge Hemi pick-up truck.

Alfred Wright's parents were notified by his wife to go to the store location in Hemphill to pick him up. They arrived around 6:45p.m. and he was not at the location. A witness told the parents she saw him walking in the direction of a nearby subdivision. Rosalind Wright says her son has physical therapy clients in the Hemphill area, but it's not clear if he was on his way to see a client.

During a telephone conversation with Rosalind Wright, she did confirm reports that a search team did recover some of Alfred's clothing, his watch, and a piece of medical equipment he uses for therapy sessions. She says cadaver dogs were used in the search but lost the missing man's scent once they reached a creek. EquuSearch is also assisting in the search.

The search for Alfred Wright remains active. The Sabine County Sheriff's office is requesting extra help to do a foot search through a heavily wooded area off Highway 87 in Hemphill. Rosalind Wright is pleading with the public to help in the search by showing up at a staging location on Coussans Road in a large pasture known as the Christian Property.

Anyone with information about Alfred Wright is urged to call the Sabine County Sheriff's Office at (409) 787-2266
