PINK WEEK: More Women Being Tested For Breast Cancer Gene

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) -- If you had the chance to eliminate your risk of breast cancer, would you? What if it involved surgery that removed your breasts?

Believe it or not more and more women of all ages with a genetic link to breast cancer are opting to do this.

Kathryn Marable decided to have a Double Mastectomy after her mother's rough battle with breast cancer. "It really affected myself, my brother and my sister. I always just felt really strongly that it wasn't something that I wanted to put my family through", she said.

Kathryn was 25 years old when she decided to have what she saw as life saving surgery.

When this type of procedure is done before a cancer diagnosis,  there are usually 2 sometimes three separate surgeries.
