HARDIN COUNTY -

A woman was arrested Monday afternoon after deputies say she beat a 78-year-old woman with a cane over the weekend.

Hardin County Sheriff Ed Cain told 12News that an arrest warrant was issued Sunday for Jessica Ann Scates, 23, of Silsbee. Deputies believe she beat Ruby Cravey, 78, in her home.  A motive has not yet been released.

Scates was arrested around 1:30 p.m. Monday after she was spotted walking along Old Spurger Highway near Silsbee.

Authorities were called to Cravey's home located in the 1100 Rusty Eddins Road around 9 a.m. Sunday. Cravey was taken to the hospital where she underwent surgery.

Authorities say the Cravey and Scates are not related, but it's believed they know each other.

Investigators say Scates is cooperating with the investigation.  Scates has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  Her bond is set at $250,000.
