Hull man charged in fatal wreck surrenders to authorities

Posted: Updated:

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Michael Gary Shannon III surrendered himself to the sheriff's department October 24 for a charge of manslaughter. Shannon had earlier been indicted by a Liberty County grand jury on September 26 on this charge which was the result of a vehicle wreck in May of 2012 at FM 770 and FM 160 where a baby was killed in the accident.

Authorities say this is vehicle crash and the resulting investigation was conducted by another agency. But prior to Michael Shannon's surrender on Thursday, the warrant had not been served. In recent days, Sgt. Billy Knox along with Sgt. Brett Audilet of the Sheriff's Department had received information that Shannon was in the Beaumont area and a telephone number was provided.

Sgt. Knox contacted Shannon by phone and advised him that a warrant for manslaughter was outstanding for his arrest. According to Shannon, he was unaware that he had been indicted and that he would come to the sheriff's department and surrender on the charge.
