Michigan pair in Liberty Co. jail on money laundering charges

  The Liberty County Sheriff Department's Narcotics Division arrested two people at approximately 7:50pm on October 23 on Highway 59 and FM 105 for a traffic violation.   The occupants,  36-year-old Ramiro Campus Puente, and 29-year-old Yesenia Yepez Flores were arrested and charged with Money Laundering and placed in the Liberty County jail. Both are from Michigan.

 Authorities say the 2007 Jeep Commander they were driving was found to have a false compartment located in the rear portion of the vehicle under the back seat that could only be accessed by a door located under the carpeting.  According to authorities, A little over $9,000 in cash was confiscated.  Deputies stated the couple displayed extreme nervousness and conflicting stories of where they were going and what the money was to be used for. A "consent to search" was obtained from the owner of the vehicle and the arrest followed the discovery of the large amount of cash.
