Jefferson Theatre to close for renovations

Posted: Updated:

There are two events left to grace the stage of the Jefferson Theatre before it closes for five months of major renovations.

In its heyday "The Jeff," as some like to call it, was the focal point for all things entertainment in Downtown Beaumont.

Last renovated in 2003 The Jeff has since gained some new life and some new problems.

The theatre's roof has already been replaced but the balcony ceiling and walls have deteriorated from water and moisture intrusion from hurricanes Rita and Ike.

The cost of the renovations will be just over $146,000 plus the cost of plasterwork.

The renovations will begin in November and end in March of 2014.

They're being paid for by the city through capitol project funds.
