Port Arthur apparent murder-suicide under investigation

Posted: Updated:

A spokesperson for the Port Arthur Police Department has released the names of a husband and wife found dead inside their home Wednesday afternoon.  The couple is identified as John and Patricia Knight, both 76, of Port Arthur.

A preliminary autopsy report released Thursday indicates each died from a single gunshot wound.

Officers believe their deaths were a result of a murder-suicide at their home located at 7617 Golf Hill Drive, off of Jimmy Johnson near the golf course.

John Knight was a prominent homebuilder, who built many of the houses in the subdivision where he lived.

The Knights were found by their son around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.  He had gone to check on them.

Police say one of them shot the other before shooting themselves.  As to who shot whom, police don't know at this time because of the position of the bodies and where the gun was located.

Sgt. Scott Gaspard with the Port Arthur Police Department said the two were both suffering from severe health problems.
