Buchholz is on World Series roster

The Boston Red Sox finalized their 25-man World Series roster Wednesday morning, and not only does it remain unchanged from the ALCS, it does not fuel any speculation about the status of starter Clay Buchholz.

Red Sox manager John Farrell curiously did not name Buchholz as his Game 3 starter, saying Tuesday only that he anticipated both Buchholz and Jake Peavy would make starts in St. Louis over the weekend.

"We're still working on which day each guy will go," Farrell told Boston radio station WEEI on Wednesday. "And I know there's been a lot of buzz on Clay's physical condition -- you know, where is he at, what's taken place the last couple of starts. He's ready to go. He will start."

Buchholz missed three months of the regular season with a neck issue, then returned to make four starts in September. He has made three postseason starts.

"Is he healthy? Yeah. I mean, if he wasn't healthy, and it was at a point of a detriment either current or long-term, we wouldn't even hesitate," Farrell told WEEI. "We'd pull the plug on it and go in another direction. But he's ready to start."

Over his three postseason outings, the right-hander has given up 12 runs and 25 hits in 21 2/3 innings, allowing three home runs and fading late in games. Buchholz has thrown just over 80 pitches in his past two playoff starts.

"The game will dictate [any] restrictions [on Buchholz]," Farrell told the radio station. "We don't go in with a hard, fast number that he's capable of, or anything along those lines. The one thing we have seen is when he's started to tire it has happened relatively quick. So that's what we have to remain aware of."
