Murchison, Seale Named to Southland All-Decade Team Former league offensive and defensive players of the year named to All-Decade team

FRISCO, Texas – Former Lamar standouts Burton Murchison and Eugene Seale have been named to the Southland Conference's 1980 All-Decade team announced league officials Wednesday evening. The team was announced as part of the league's year-long 50th Anniversary commemoration.

"The 1980's define a significant amount of transition for Southland Conference football," said SLC Commissioner Tom Burnett. "However, the league managed significant member changes in a skillful and strategic manner that kept the sport at a very high competitive level."

Murchison played with the Cardinals from 1984-87, while Seale was a member of the team from 1983-85. Murchison was one of the league's all-time great running backs, while Seale was one of the Southland's top linebackers during his time on campus.

Still ranked as the school's all-time leading rusher, Murchison carried the ball 665 times for 3,598 yards during his four seasons, and is also the school's single-game and single-season leader for yards rushing. He recorded 28 career touchdowns which is tied for the second best mark in program history.

Murchison was named Southland Offensive Player of the Year in 1985 following a season that saw him lead the league in rushing and all-purpose yards. He capped off the season by earning first-team All-America honors.

Seale had a huge impact in the Southland during his sophomore season. The Jasper, Texas product, was named first-team All-America and Southland Defensive Player of the Year following a season that saw him record 170 tackles, including 85 solo stops. He was also named conference defensive player of the week five times during the 1983 season. Seale followed that up by recording 167 tackles and earning second-team All-America honors the following season.

Seale recorded 500 tackles during his career in Beaumont. Following his collegiate career he went on to participate in the NFL for six seasons playing with the Houston Oilers.
