LCM flag football team needs help to play in national competition

Posted: Updated:

Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School's Special Olympics flag football team called "Team Force" is going to play flag football on the national level.

"Team Force" is the only high school team from Texas that has been invited to play in the national flag football games at the University of Maryland.

The team is made possible by a program called "Meet in the Middle" that puts students with intellectual disabilities in activities alongside other LCM students.

A Life-Skills teacher says the program has had a huge impact on her students' personal growth.

"It builds confidence in them," said teacher Terrie Parker. "Not just social confidence but it builds confidence in the classroom. I have students now that when I ask a question they're raising their hands and they're giving me answers. They know that they can accomplish things."

Although Special Olympics will pay part of the cost for students to participate in the games the Life Skills program is responsible for paying the majority of transportation, lodging and food costs.

And now they need your help to make the trip happen.

LCM is accepting donations. You can contact Mrs. Terrie Parker at (409) 886-5821 ext. 1560 to contribute.
