Lamar State College Port Arthur is one step closer to building dorms on the school's downtown campus.
Port Arthur's Economic Development Corporation committed half a million dollars for the dorms.
University president Dr. Sam Monroe appeared before the PAEDC Monday to request the funding that would offset the cost of building the living quarters.
The college had planned on using $3 million in PAEDC money to fund the $6.6 million project but that amount was denied.
