The Beaumont Independent School District Board ofTtrustees is looking to continue special meetings like the one held Monday night.
Trustees held a meeting strictly to discuss items on the consent agenda for Thursday's regular board meeting. The special meeting gives trustees a chance to better understand and discuss items that will be up for vote on Thursday. It's expected to save the board time on Thursday's nights. And it's part of training that the trustees are undergoing and Board President Woodrow Reece hopes it contributes to healing in the district.
"Different cities, they're doing this already. They've become successful. We want to be successful also," Reece said.
Monday night trustees discussed the second and final reading of a policy change giving the public less time to speak at meetings.
The change would reduce the total time for public comment from 45 minutes to 30. And each person would have one minute less than the normal three and a half to talk to the board.
Trustees did decide to place all items in the consent agenda together except the policy change.
That will be voted on separately on Thursday.
