Temple Firefighter Retiring After 33 Years of Service

Temple Fire & Rescue is hosting a retirement ceremony for a member of its department.

Captain-Paramedic Gerald "Jerry" Hicks is retiring from the department with over 33 years of service.

Hicks started with the department on March 24, 1980 and currently holds the position of "A" Shift Captain at Station 6.

During his career, he has received numerous recognitions from organizations including City of Temple Commissioners Court, American Legion Post 133, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1820 and Temple Fire & Rescue Firefighter of the Year.

The owner of Dalmatians, Captain Hicks has brought his dogs to community events including the City Christmas Parade, SPJST Open House, School Career Days and Fire Safety Day at the Park.

He and his wife are the proud parents of two adult children, and four grandchildren.

The public is invited to join the department for a come and go reception honoring Captain Hicks on Monday, October 14, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Central Fire Station.
