Shortly before 9 p.m., officers responded to the Union Pacific railroad tracks that run parallel to the 3800 block of Hollywood at the Interstate 10 overpass. A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train engineer had called 911 to report that the train had just struck a man who had been laying along the railroad tracks.
According to the train engineers, they were moving westbound when they spotted the man lying near the tracks. They immediately tried to stop the train. The train continued rolling for at least 150-200 feet after the engineers hit the brakes. That is when the train struck the man.
Jefferson County Precinct 1 Place 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Nancy Beaulieu has ordered an autopsy. It is scheduled to be performed Wednesday.
