Houston men arrested while trying to cash fraudulent check at Beaumont bank, police say

A Beaumont Police Department spokesperson said two men who tried to pass a fraudulent check at a Beaumont bank were arrested, but not before one struggled with police and tried to run away.

Sgt. Rob Flores said in a statement issued Tuesday that around 3:44 p.m. Monday officers were called to the Community Bank located in the 6300 block of Phelan.  A Bank clerk told a 911 operator that two men were in the bank trying to cash fraudulent checks.

When patrol officers arrived at the bank to question the men, one of them refused to cooperate and tried to run from the bank.  After a brief struggle with officers, the man was able to break free and run from the building.

Officers caught the man at the end of a brief foot chase.  The second man did not resist and officers took him into custody inside the bank without incident.

Flores identifies the man who ran as Clyde S. Porter, 30, of Houston.  He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on one count of forgery, which has a $10,500 bond, one count of resisting arrest, which has a $250 bond, and one count of evading arrest, which has a $250 bond.

The second man is identified as Lawrence B. Zeno, 42, of Houston.   He was booked into the jail on one count of forgery, which has a $7,500 bond.
