Last year Beaumont Independent School District students and staff raised $13,000 for New Jersey's Irvington Public School District, which was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy.
It turns out Queen Latifah was once a student in that school district, and she was touched when she heard about the generous donation.
A camera crew visited West Brook High School to shoot video for Latifah's new daytime talk show, The Queen Latifah Show and the segment aired Monday.
"A group of kids did a really great thing for people on the other side of the country, who they didn't know, and we really liked the idea of that," said Adrian Buitenhuis, a producer for the show.
BISD spokesman Ron Reynolds says the district never expected any kind of special recognition for the fundraiser, but was very excited when they got the call from The Queen Latifah Show back in June.
The Queen Latifah Show airs weekdays at 11 a.m. on K-JAC.
