(KCEN) -- On Monday around 22,000 people in Killeen were without power for nearly an hour. Oncor Electric says the outage was caused by equipment failure at their Park Sub Station.
Karl Green with Oncor says around 12:30 p.m. power went out to thousands of homes and businesses in Killeen. About 20 minutes later his crews were able to pin point the source of the power outage to a lightning arrester that stopped working at the sub station.
This piece of equipment helps protect the transformers from lightning strikes. Once the crew found the malfunctioning arrester they replaced the equipment and the power was up and running with in an hour.
Right now Oncor is evaluating the malfunctioning part to determine why it stopped working.
