SETX woman raising awareness for endometriosis

Posted: Updated:

One woman with one voice is hoping her new facebook page spreads across Southeast Texas so other's women's voices can be heard.

Samantha Deets, 25, of Orange, was diagnosed with endometriosis four years ago.

Endometriosis is a female health disorder where the lining of the womb grows on the outside instead of the inside.

On the facebook page, "Endometriosis in SETX", women can share their symptoms, stories of fighting the painful condition, and give each other strength.

"I didn't have anybody to relate to when I was diagnosed four years ago. So, I know that there were girls out there just like me that needed someone to talk to," said Deets.

She started the group two weeks ago and already has a good following.

She says in her years of suffering, she's had multiple surgeries.

"We have adhesions and lesions and cysts growing in us that cause pain."

Endometriosis not only causes pelvic pain, it causes infertility, and injuries to other organs.

Deets says those who suffer should have a shoulder to lean on.

"I don't encourage anybody to try to go through it alone. It's not easy. It's very emotional. It's linked to depression and chronic fatigue," she said.

March is Endometriosis Awareness month and Deets is already planning an event to take place that month in Southeast Texas.
