Organizers say more than 6,000 people participated in The Gift of Life 5K Ribbon Run Color Rush. The event started at 8 a.m. Saturday at City Hall in downtown Beaumont.
Survivors of breast cancer participated in the colorful survivors' parade led by Yvonne Washington singing Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive". The parade was followed by a balloon release.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Julie Rogers Gift of Life program which has funded more than 20 thousand free mammograms.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
