The month of September has taken a significant bite out of the drought situation across Southeast Texas. We finished up the month with a surplus of more than two inches of rainfall. We are still below normal for the entire year, but to put things into perspective, we had an annual deficit of more than 7 inches on September 19th. The following day we picked up several inches of rain and with the latest storm system, we are now just a little more than two inches in the red for 2013. Fortunately, the ground has been able to hold the rain just enough to prevent any significant flooding.
As for the drought situation, the ground is getting a little greener across the area. Right now, the worst drought is limited to Tyler, north Jasper and Newton counties.
