Heavy rains changed the course for the Beaumont Area Pastors Council's 11th Annual "Pray for Beaumont."
The caravan normally drives the boundary of the city to pray at landmarks within the city. Instead the caravan drove to Gospel Tabernacle of Beaumont Sunday. A service was held inside the church and together everyone prayed for items on a prayer list.
Number 11 asked to pray for all churches and pastors. That included Pastor Ronald Harris and his family.
Harris was gunned down Friday at his Lake Charles church during a revival service. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Deputies say Deacon Woodrow Karey later confessed to the killing.
Local church leaders say during times of unimaginable tragedies the best thing they can do is pray.
"It's during the tragedies when we really discover who we are in Christ. It's when we really discover the things god wants to do in our lives. It's tragic anytime someone loses control and harms others but God is merciful, he's gracious. And we just pray that god intervened with the families that are in any type of tragic event," Gospel Center Church Pastor Donny Flippo said.
The caravan also had to revert to an indoor service because police escort was unavailable.
