Jefferson County process server wants trial moved out of Jefferson County

Posted: Updated:

A Jefferson County process server arrested at the courthouse in May is asking for his trial to be moved.

Steve Hartman was accused of disrupting court proceedings after attempting to serve Judge Layne Walker with notice of a lawsuit.

The deputies who arrested Hartman have admitted lying about Hartman's actions but the case against Hartman has not been dismissed.

Hartman's attorney John Morgan has filed a motion seeking a change of venue saying, "there exists in the county where the prosecution is commenced, so great a prejudice against him that he cannot obtain a fair and impartial trial."

The next hearing in this case has been set for November 13th.
