Lumberton Fire Department has Hardin County’s first ladder truck

Posted: Updated:

Lumberton Fire and EMS now have a new tool to help them fight fires more efficiently and save more lives, Hardin County's first ladder truck.

The truck came in last week and now Lumberton firefighters are training with their newest piece of equipment.

It allows firefighters to go 105 feet into the air and spray 1,500 to 1,800 gallons of water per minute.

Now that they have a ladder truck Chief Robert Simonson says when there is a fire in a multiple story building or a rescue is involved the use of the ladder will make it easier for firefighters to save a life.

"We worry about not only our residents but the people passing through, people who are going to stay in hotels, people who are going to do business in these stores, said Simonson, "I want to make sure that if there is an incident that we have the tool in our tool box to make sure that they an get out safe or that they can be helped."

Simonson says they bought the ladder truck from the City of Orange for about $220,000 - which he says is a steal compared to more than $700,000 for a new one.

After Lumberton firefighters are trained on the truck they'll teach the Silsbee and Kountze fire departments how to use it so that the truck can service all residents of Hardin County.
