BISD releases surveillance images of copper thieves

The Beaumont Independent School District is asking for the public's help in catching the people they say are responsible for stealing copper wire from at least one of its campuses.

BISD police say the theft at Martin Elementary on September 14 was the seventh copper wire theft from a district campus this  summer. They released images from surveillance cameras at a press conference Monday.

The campuses include Bingman head Start, Vincent and Odom Middle Schools, Price and Martin Element aries and the Paul Brown Center, which has been hit twice.

The thieves break into air conditioning units and steal the copper from chiller units. The thieves have caused about $30,000 in damage to date.

Anyone with information is asked to call local law enforcement.
