Weather prompts changes for future Pecan Festivals

Posted: Updated:

Plans are already in the works for changes to next years Pecan Festival in Groves. Between Friday and Sunday Mid-County saw three to five inches of rain leaving puddles of water and festival grounds muddy at Lions Park.

It's something the festival experienced seven or eight years back when the area where the carnival is now suffered the same problems due to bad weather.

Some drains were built in then. By next year some more are hoping to be in place near the crafts and food booths.

"It will be set up just like it is right now. We hope to start up some drainage or build the park up to where if it does rain, it will run to the storm sewers. So if we do get another rain storm we'll be better prepared," Brad Corley with the Texas Pecan Festival said.

The weather did cause some cancellations this weekend like the Saturday morning parade that was scheduled for 10 o'clock.

What affect the weather had on the festivals profit won't be known until later in the week.
