At 4:30 Wednesday, Two female UMHB students took the first steps of a 111 mile journey from Independence, TX, where UMHB found it's roots in 1845, to Crusader Stadium.
The event was conceived as a way for the university to build up excitement for its new stadium.
We caught up with some of the students and alumni participating in the Game Ball Run on Pritchard Road in Temple on Thursday.
They told us the event is also a celebration of the university's rich history.
"We really wanted to come back from where our heritage started, Independence Village, and carry the ball one-on-one with a lot of the kids that are really are out here to support UMHB," said Game Ball Runner Drew Darnell.
"It's kind of a historic event where all of us crusaders come together and do something that's never been done before," Game Ball Runner William Strebeck said.
UMHB Student Body President Collin Davies ran the final leg of the Game Ball Run, delivering the ball to the 50-yard line at Crusader Stadium.
