BEAUMONT -

Beaumont police have made an arrest in the September 11 kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault of a woman who was leaving the Beaumont library.

The suspect is identified as Dijon Cooper, 20, of Beaumont.  Cooper is charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault and three counts of kidnapping.  His bond is set at $400,000.

Sgt. Rob Flores told 12News patrol officers received information that they were able to use to determine Cooper's identity.  Once they made their case against Cooper, Judge Larry Thorne signed warrants Friday for his arrest.

"We picked him up today in the 2800 block of Gulf Street.  He was on a bicycle, our street crimes officers were familiar with him and knew where he hung out. This is another very good example of the fact that our community is not going to stand for these type of offenses and they do give information to us so they can help us solve these types of crimes," said Flores.

Sgt. Flores said Cooper did not resist arrest.

Sgt. Flores said the victim's children, a newborn and 1-year-old child were in the car at the time of the kidnapping.  He said they were not physically harmed in the incident.  He said Cooper is charged with one count of kidnapping for the victim and two additional charges of kidnapping for the children.

Cooper has confessed to the crime.

According to 12News file stories, shortly before 11 a.m. on September 11, officers were called to the 700 block of E.Lucas in reference to a robbery of an individual. Once officers arrived it was discovered that the victim had been abducted from 3590 E.Lucas (Library).

The victim said she was leaving the library with her children when a man approached her from behind.  He was holding something in his hand which she thought was a weapon. The man forced her into the car and told her to start driving or he would hurt her.  He directed her to Forest Lawn Cemetery located at Pine and E.Lucas, and then sexually assaulted her.
